Every night

What happens while you sleep.

Plugged in when you get home, a car charges to 100% and sits full until morning. With Voltena, charging stops at 80%.

Fewer nights at 100%

A lithium battery wears faster when it stays full for hours. That's why manufacturers recommend 80% for everyday use. Voltena applies it to every charge.

Regenerative braking from the start

At 100% the battery can't take anything back: regenerative braking is limited and the brake pads do the work. At 80% it works from the moment you set off.

Off-peak, if your tariff has it

On Economy 7, Day/Night or an EV tariff with fixed hours, charging waits for your off-peak slot. On Intelligent Octopus Go, Octopus already schedules your charging: let it, and use Voltena for the charge limit and the history of every charge.

How fast a battery actually ages depends on climate and use.

Plan

Your car won't stop at 80% on its own.

  • The charge limit, from 50 to 100%, 80% by default: the setting manufacturers recommend for everyday use.
  • Higher for a long journey, in one tap: the charge goes further once, without touching your settings.
  • On an off-peak tariff: your off-peak hours on a 24-hour dial, one or several time slots, different at weekends if needed. Entered once, they manage the charge and work out what it cost.

History

Every charge, in kWh and cost

  • One card per charge: what the battery had, what was added, the limit. You can see at a glance that it worked, and when it didn't.
  • The energy and cost of every charge at your tariff's price, in pounds or euros, peak and off-peak shown separately. And the monthly total.
  • Location, pre-conditioning, battery health, several cars on one account: it's all there too.

How it works

Two minutes, just once

01

Connect your manufacturer account

Your MyPeugeot, MyCitroën, MyVauxhall, MyOpel or MyDS login. The password is never stored. One SMS code, once.

02

Set the limit, and off-peak hours if you have them

A slider for the charge limit and, on an off-peak tariff, your off-peak hours. The home screen then tells you how the evening goes: when charging starts, when it stops.

03

Plug in

Voltena stops at your limit, waits for off-peak hours if you've set them, and tells you when it's done.

Compatibility

Every electric Peugeot, Citroën, Vauxhall, Opel and DS

If your manufacturer's app shows your car's battery level, Voltena can manage its charging. Connected services must be switched on.

Questions

What people ask us

What happens after the 14 free days?
The trial is managed by the App Store or Google Play. At the end of the 14 days, the plan you chose starts and the first payment is taken, unless you've cancelled before then. Nothing is charged during the trial.
How do I cancel my subscription?
From your phone, in a few taps. On iPhone: Settings › your name › Subscriptions › Voltena, then cancel. On Android: Google Play › Profile › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions › Voltena, then cancel. You keep access until the end of the period you've already paid for.
How do I limit charging to 80% on an electric Peugeot, Citroën, Vauxhall, Opel or DS?
With Voltena, without changing anything on the car. Choose your limit, from 50 to 100%: Voltena watches the battery level while charging, sends the stop command as soon as the limit is reached, and a notification confirms it. 80% is the setting manufacturers recommend for everyday use to look after the battery.
Do I need to fit a device in the car?
No. No hardware, no cable, nothing done to the car or the charger. Voltena talks to the manufacturer's servers, exactly as your MyPeugeot, MyCitroën, MyVauxhall, MyOpel or MyDS app does.
Do I need a smart charger?
No. Voltena manages charging through the manufacturer's servers, whether you plug into a three-pin socket or a home charger that's already installed. Nothing to buy, nothing to install: you don't need a smart charger to stop at 80%.
Is my manufacturer password stored?
No. It's used once, to open a session with the manufacturer. Voltena only keeps the access authorisation the manufacturer issues, which is revoked as soon as you change your password.
Do I need to keep the manufacturer's app?
Yes, keep it installed. Day to day, everything is in Voltena: battery level, charging, location, pre-conditioning, history. MyPeugeot, MyCitroën, MyVauxhall, MyOpel or MyDS are needed to switch on the car's connected services, and Voltena can't do that for them.
Does it work with Economy 7, Octopus Go or Intelligent Octopus Go?
With Economy 7, Day/Night or an EV tariff with fixed off-peak hours, such as Octopus Go: yes. You enter your off-peak hours, up to ten time slots per day of the week, and Voltena only charges during them. On Intelligent Octopus Go, Octopus schedules the charging itself and adds slots Voltena can't see: leave Voltena's off-peak setting off and let Octopus do the scheduling. Voltena still stops at your charge limit and keeps the history of every charge.
Which cars are compatible?
Every electric Peugeot, Citroën, Vauxhall, Opel and DS that shows its battery level in the manufacturer's app. Connected services must be switched on: if they aren't, Voltena walks you through turning them on, step by step.
